Anisotropic modeling with geometric multigrid preconditioned finite-element method

Formation anisotropy in complicated geophysical environments can have a significant impact on data interpretation of electromagnetic surveys. To facilitate full 3D modeling of arbitrary anisotropy, we have adopted an [Formula: see text]-version geometric multigrid preconditioned finite-element method (FEM) based on vector basis functions. By using a structured mesh, instead of an unstructured one, our method can conveniently construct the restriction and prolongation operators for multigrid implementation, and then recursively coarsen the grid with the F-cycle coarsening scheme. The geometric multigrid method is used as a preconditioner for the biconjugate-gradient stabilized method to efficiently solve the linear system resulting from the FEM. Our method avoids the need of interpolation for arbitrary anisotropy modeling as in Yee’s grid-based finite-difference method, and it is also more capable of large-scale modeling with respect to the [Formula: see text]-version geometric multigrid preconditioned finite-element method. A numerical example in geophysical well logging is included to demonstrate its numerical performance. Our [Formula: see text]-version geometric multigrid preconditioned FEM is expected to help formation anisotropy characterization with electromagnetic surveys in complicated geophysical environments.

Electric Field Induced Twisted Bilayer Graphene Infrared Plasmon Spectrum

In this work, we investigate the role of an external electric field in modulating the spectrum and electronic structure behavior of twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) and its physical mechanisms. Through theoretical studies, it is found that the external electric field can drive the relative positions of the conduction band and valence band to some extent. The difference of electric field strength and direction can reduce the original conduction band, and through the Fermi energy level, the band is significantly influenced by the tunable electric field and also increases the density of states of the valence band passing through the Fermi level. Under these two effects, the valence and conduction bands can alternately fold, causing drastic changes in spectrum behavior. In turn, the plasmon spectrum of TBG varies from semiconductor to metal. The dielectric function of TBG can exhibit plasmon resonance in a certain range of infrared.

Visible Light Electromagnetic Interaction of PM567 Chiral Dye for Asymmetric Photocatalysis, a First-Principles Investigation

In asymmetric photocatalytic reactions, it is necessary to study the mechanism of the asymmetric electromagnetic interaction between molecules and light. In this work, we theoretically studied the electromagnetic interactions between the light-induced charge transfer reaction and the chiral reaction of PM567 dye. We found that the chiral responses of molecules in different wavelength ranges were partially due to pyrromethene and binaphthalene. Therefore, the catalytic sites with different chirality also corresponds to the two-part groups. Through quantitative analysis, we found the entire analysis process to be complete and self-consistent.

Nanoplasmon–Semiconductor Hybrid for Interface Catalysis

We firstly, in this review, introduce the optical properties of plasmonic metals, and then focus on introducing the unique optical properties of the noble metal–metal-oxide hybrid system by revealing the physical mechanism of plasmon–exciton interaction, which was confirmed by theoretical calculations and experimental investigations. With this noble metal–metal-oxide hybrid system, plasmonic nanostructure–semiconductor exciton coupling interactions for interface catalysis has been analyzed in detail. This review can provide a deeper understanding of the physical mechanism of exciton–plasmon interactions in surface catalysis reactions.
